Think your tap water is safe? Think again.

Think your tap water is safe? Think again.

You might trust your tap water now... But what if it’s slowly harming your health?

In July 2025, several French towns were forced to shut off tap water - not because of drought, but because of toxic chemical contamination.
The culprit? A group of industrial chemicals called PFAS - and they’re already in your water too.

What Are PFAS - and Why Should You Care?

PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are synthetic chemicals used in things like:

  • Waterproof jackets

  • Non-stick pans

  • Food packaging

  • Firefighting foams

They’re nicknamed “forever chemicals” because they don’t break down in nature—and worse, they accumulate in your body over time.

PFAS have been linked to:

  • Hormonal disruption

  • Infertility

  • Certain cancers

  • Liver and kidney damage

  • Suppressed immune function

And according to the EU Health Alliance, 98% of Europeans (including the UK) may already have PFAS in their blood.

PFAS in the Water: A Growing Crisis

    • 12.5 million Europeans, including in the UK, live in areas with PFAS-contaminated water

    • 2300+ new locations are expected to breach PFAS safety limits by 2026

    • 3500 people in France lost access to clean tap water in July 2025 alone

In July 2025, Le Monde and The Guardian reported a disturbing public health emergency in France:

Several villages in the Loire and Rhône regions were forced to shut off their tap water - not due to drought, but due to toxic PFAS contamination until further notice.

“In some villages, PFAS levels exceeded the French safety threshold by up to 15 times
-
Le Monde, July 18, 2025

Let that sink in: entire communities can no longer drink their tap water - because of chemicals that shouldn’t be there in the first place.

  • The UK currently has no official PFAS safety threshold in place,

  • The EU recently tightened its limit to 0.1µg/L per PFAS compound.

  • The U.S. is going even further, proposing stricter limits due to long-term health risks.

Yet these regulations only cover about 48 compounds—there are thousands more that remain unregulated or undetected.

Take Control with Sküma

Sküma offers a solution. MYStation is a countertop 3 stage reverse osmosis water dispenser that:

Removes PFAS

  • Our advanced Super-Filter was independently lab-tested to significantly reduce up to 99.9% of PFAS compounds, along with heavy metals, microplastics, and chlorine.

Sküma’s Approach: Our systems are engineered to remove a broad range of PFAS, with detailed, transparent data on removal efficiency. Average in tap water (sum of 20 PFAs) = 1.792µg/l, after Sküma <0.056µg/l.

We spiked tap water with 20 PFAS to determine the removal rates after filtration with the Sküma Super-Filter, reaching the quantifiable limit of PFAS after filtration.

Result certified by an independent French laboratory accredited by COFRAC.
