Personalised hydration optimisation: Sküma Water is developing the next step in its approach

Personalised hydration optimisation: Sküma Water is developing the next step in its approach

From purification to remineralisation, then to personalisation: Sküma Water's R&D is now working on a new medium designed to support daily hydration with even greater precision.

We're rarely aware of having a hydration target.

Our goal is usually simpler: staying hydrated.

Drinking enough. Not feeling thirsty. Remembering to bring a bottle. Drinking more when it's hot or during physical activity.

But as our understanding of physiology advances, one question becomes increasingly relevant: can we look beyond the amount of water consumed and consider how we actually hydrate our bodies?

This is the thinking that has guided Sküma Water since it was founded.

With the MY™ Station, we first focused on water quality: purifying everyday water, then remineralising it through different mineral profiles.

With our boosters, we then developed a complementary approach, designed to meet more specific needs.

Today, our R&D is working on a new stage: a companion medium linked to the MY™ Station, designed to help each person optimise their hydration according to their profile, environment and habits.

This isn't a new product replacing the MY™ Station.

The MY™ Station remains at the heart of our approach.

It's an additional aid, designed to help people get even more out of it.

Hydration optimisation: already at the heart of Sküma Water

The idea of personalised hydration isn't new at Sküma Water.

It's already the foundation of what we offer.

The MY™ Station doesn't simply filter tap water. It combines advanced purification with controlled remineralisation, allowing different mineral profiles to be chosen according to preference and use.

Mineral Soft offers a light remineralisation profile, designed for everyday hydration. Mineral Plus provides a more concentrated mineralisation, particularly suited to those with higher fluid needs. Mineral Alkaline offers a different profile altogether, with an adjusted pH and a specific composition.

This approach already moves beyond a purely quantitative view of hydration.

The question is no longer simply “how much should I drink?” but also one of water quality and composition.

Sküma Water's boosters add a further layer to this.

Our HYDRATATION. MELISSE™ booster combines electrolytes with an active ingredient derived from lemon balm (mélisse). Naturally rich in antioxidant compounds, lemon balm is included in a formulation designed to support sustained concentration and performance, in daily life as much as during exertion.

Purification. Remineralisation. Formulation.

Step by step, Sküma Water is building a comprehensive approach to hydration optimisation.

And our R&D is now looking to take this further.

The next step: putting hydration into context

The same person doesn't necessarily have the same hydration needs every day.

Context changes.

Physical activity, outside temperature, travel, sleep, certain daily habits or one-off situations can all affect the body's needs.

It's precisely this contextual dimension that our R&D is looking to build into the project currently in development.

The aim is to create an aid for hydration optimisation, able to take into account both the user's profile and the various situations they choose to log.

“We've already built a whole offering to meet this need: purification, remineralisation, our mineral profiles, our boosters. What our R&D is developing today is a further aid to help people get even more out of all of it.” — Alexandre Mahe, founder of Sküma Water

The approach is deliberately gradual.

This isn't about claiming there's a universal hydration formula, but rather about recognising that context matters.

The ambition, then, is to help each user achieve hydration that's more consistent with their profile and daily life, drawing on documented recommendations and the data they choose to share.

R&D built on context, not a one-size-fits-all recommendation

This is one of the project's core principles.

The aim isn't to suggest the same amount of water for everyone, or to turn hydration into a stream of alerts.

The work is instead about putting recommendations into context.

Individual profile, physical activity, weather, particular situations: all parameters that could be factored in to gradually build a more personalised approach.

Some situations are very concrete.

A workout doesn't represent the same hydration context as a day spent sitting at a desk. A heatwave calls for different considerations than an ordinary day. A sauna session or a long flight can also count as particular situations worth factoring in.

Even some commonly held beliefs are being reconsidered.

Coffee, for instance, isn't simply treated as a drink that systematically needs “making up for”. At typical intake levels, the scientific evidence doesn't show it causes net dehydration; its effect needs to be considered within the broader context of overall fluid intake.

This is the kind of scientific, contextual precision we want to gradually build into the Sküma experience.

An aid to help you get more out of, and look after, your MY™ Station

Hydration optimisation doesn't stop at what you drink.

It also depends on being able to maintain, over time, the conditions that keep your hydration system working properly.

That's why the project our R&D is developing isn't just about hydration recommendations.

It's also designed to help users get the most out of their MY™ Station.

Super-Filter tracking, maintenance and descaling reminders, tutorials, answers to frequently asked questions: the aim is to make this information easier to access and simpler to fit into daily life.

“The MY™ Station is our users' hydration tool. It only makes sense to help them look after it, with maintenance reminders, tutorials and a FAQ accessible directly.” — Alexandre Mahe

This dimension might seem secondary.

It isn't.

Hydration technology only has value if it's used correctly and properly maintained over time.

A fuller relationship with Sküma Water

This new aid is also intended to extend the relationship between users and the wider Sküma Water ecosystem.

The aim is simple: that everyone has what they need to continue their hydration optimisation journey.

Mineral profile recommendations, access to consumables, managing MY™ Station-related needs, customer support: the ambition is to gradually bring these different dimensions together in one place.

This could also extend to managing a MY™ Bases subscription, with the ability to postpone a delivery, change profile or pause a subscription.

The point, then, isn't to build an app for the sake of building an app.

It's to build a further medium in service of the Sküma experience.

From product innovation to continuous optimisation

This evolution fits within a broader logic at Sküma Water.

Our approach has never treated water as a fixed, finished product.

We started by working on purification.

Then on remineralisation.

Then on personalising mineral profiles.

Then on complementary formulations with our boosters.

The next step is to work on how these different solutions can be used even more effectively in daily life.

“We're looking to go further, to help people optimise their hydration and deepen their relationship with their MY™ Station.” — Alexandre Mahe

It's ultimately an exercise in optimising the optimisation itself.

At every stage, the same question comes back: how do we go further in understanding hydration, and in adapting it to real, everyday use?

An R&D project, not a launch

It's worth being clear about where things stand today.

This aid isn't yet available for public download.

It's currently being developed and tested with a small number of beta testers, on iOS, with integration with Apple Health currently being explored to gradually sharpen the relevance of recommendations based on available data.

This testing phase is deliberate.

“We'd rather move forward step by step, with a small number of beta testers shaping the aid as we go, than rush.” — Alexandre Mahe

A waitlist is open for anyone who'd like to take part in the beta programme: app@skumawater.com.

Will the future of hydration be personalised?

Innovation in hydration may no longer be solely about producing better water.

It's also about better understanding when, why and how we hydrate.

Human physiology is contextual. Our needs shift with our activity, our environment and our daily lives.

That's why the future of hydration could gradually move from a logic of consumption to one that's more personalised, contextual and evidence-based.

At Sküma Water, this shift is already under way.

The MY™ Station remains at the centre of our approach. Purification, remineralisation and our boosters form the foundations of what we offer.

Our R&D is now working on the next layer: an aid capable of supporting this optimisation with even greater precision.

So this isn't a launch.

It's the next step in a research and development effort that began with a simple idea: to stop treating water as a mere commodity, and instead see it as something we can understand better, control better, and adapt more closely to our needs.

Frequently asked questions

What is personalised hydration optimisation?

Personalised hydration optimisation means considering hydration in light of individual profile and context, rather than applying the same amount of water to everyone. Physical activity, environment and certain particular situations can all be factored in.

Is the Sküma Water app available?

Not yet for the general public. The project is currently in development and being tested with a small group of beta testers on iOS. This phase allows our R&D to shape the aid around real-world use. To join the waitlist and apply for the beta phase, you can email us directly at app@skumawater.com.

Do I need to own a MY™ Station?

It isn't a requirement to join the beta. That said, the experience is built around the MY™ Station ecosystem, and most features come into their own when used alongside the station.

What will this new aid be able to do?

It's designed to support three dimensions: optimising hydration based on profile and activity, getting the most out of a MY™ Station, and making the relationship with Sküma Water easier, particularly around mineral profiles, consumables and support.

Will the app replace the MY™ Station?

No. The MY™ Station remains the central hydration tool. The project currently being developed by Sküma Water is designed as an additional aid linked to its ecosystem, not a replacement for the hardware.

When will it be available on Android?

Current development is focused on iOS. No Android availability date has been announced at this stage.
